– 2017 Season –

Our 2017 season brought a few more changes and a lot more success from the previous year. Oahe Elite Volleyball (OEVB) had a record 65 athletes playing in 2017, with girls from White River, Stanley County, Onida, Highmore, Harrold, and, of course, Pierre. Our coaching staff also grew again, which gave is the ability to have two teams and the 12s and 14s levels, as well as more specialized position training throughout the season.  We had several athletes who were able to play on two teams, finding success at a higher level and proving that age is just a number. The extra commitment and hard work of Kenzie Gronlund (14-1s/16s) and Reghan Westcott (11s/12-2s) and their families did not go unnoticed. Additionally, Lavin Price and Taylor Newman helped the 12-1s team with a 2nd place finish, Raegan Wiebe took part in the 16s Augie Classic championship, and Austyn Wiebe and Abbie Kitts were able to fill a need on the 17s team this year. Thankful for the extra dedication!

The 11s teams were a larger group of all 5th graders this year, playing with flexible rosters and as three separate teams in two of their tournaments. They were able to compete with the 6th grade teams at every tournament and improved their record each weekend. We will continue to grow this 11U part of our program, and are grateful to the families who have helped us find our way.

The 12-1s team was one of Oahe Elite’s most successful teams, regardless of only playing with a full roster in their first and last tournaments. They finished 2nd place consistently in their first three competitions, and capped off the season with a 1st place finish (finally!) at the North Country Region Area Championships!

The 12-2s and 14-2s teams came into the season with little club volleyball experience and came out of the season much improved thanks to some top-notch coaching and competitive spirits. The 12-2s grew stronger and finished higher each weekend, taking first place in the silver bracket in Huron to end their season with a come-from-behind win in the championship match. The 14-2s were able to place 1st in the bronze bracket at the Pentagon Big Sioux Challenge in March, and improved their season record each weekend. We were able to accomplish a lot with both groups in just a two months.

The Oahe Elite 14-1s team started on top as champions of the Pipestone tournament, defeating Huron in the championship, then helped the 16s to take home another gold medal the next day as three of their roster members finished out the basketball season. The 14-1s competed in the gold bracket at every tournament this year. The team finished 2nd and 3rd at two separate Pentagon tournaments, and 2nd overall at the North Country Region Championships.

For the Oahe Elite’s high school athletes, the 16s team proved to be one of the most competitive Oahe Elite teams this year. They won their season opener as a combo-squad in Minnesota, then took home gold again at the Augie Classic. The team also finished second place at the two-day Ole Open, and took home a silver bracket 1st place at the Pentagon Spring Fling.

The 17s team started at the end of March, playing right away as an 18s team with the help of two OEVB alum, Elena Svingen and Andrea Dragaset. For the remainder of their season, this group competed with a roster of all 2018 graduates for the first time since the re-surge of our club in 2015. The 17s ended their season with two weekends in a row in Sioux Falls, finishing 3rd at the Pentagon May Day Challenge and 2nd at the two-day Pentagon Pre-Nationals tournament.

– 2016 Season –

Our 2016 Club Season brought our club to a new level, playing in national qualifiers in Sioux Falls and Des Moines. Our 16s team had great success in their schedule, with three gold bracket finishes. Our 17s team won their first tournament at Augustana, beating a nationally ranked team in the championship match. A group of select 4th and 5th graders was formed to compete as 11s teams, and we are excited to watch them grow in the 12U program for the next two years.

We continued to enforce our commitment standards and kept a set practice schedule at the same facility. Our changes for this year included starting the season at the end of February and adding a required practice uniform.

We are hoping to make some adjustments to ensure 2017 is even better!

– 2015 Season –

Our 2015 Club Season was the beginning of big changes for Oahe Elite Volleyball Club. We competed in our first JVA tournaments with the 14s 15s and 16s teams and traveled to Omaha as part of the Northern Plains Power League series. Our 12s teams had great success, with several gold medal finishes. It was also our first year with higher commitment expectation and a set practice schedule and location for all teams. We also had three players from schools other than Pierre, and hope to increase that number in the future.

Our survey results indicated that this was a favorite for those that had played with us before! Going forward, we plan to continue to find quality tournaments, make our schedule as early as possible, and make traveling and schedules easier to understand.
